Executive Summary

Grant McGrail is Chief Revenue Officer of Navan, running global sales and customer success for the corporate travel and expense management company that was until 2023 called TripActions. He arrived in October 2020 — which is to say, at the worst possible moment to join a business travel company, and therefore at the moment when the commercial organisation had to be rebuilt rather than merely scaled. He was promoted to the top revenue job in January 2022, as travel returned and the company pushed hard into Europe through the acquisitions of Comtravo and Reed & Mackay. Navan has since gone public and reports FY26 revenue of $702 million across more than 12,500 active customers. Announcing the promotion, co-founder and chief executive Ariel Cohen described him as combining “the disciplined maturity required to win the biggest enterprise on the planet with the modern, agile methods necessary for sustained hypergrowth” — a description of the specific problem Navan had, which was selling to global enterprises while still behaving like a startup.

Career Highlights

  • Chief Revenue Officer of Navan, responsible for global sales and customer success, on a fourteen-strong executive team under co-founders Ariel Cohen and Ilan Twig.
  • Joined in October 2020 and was promoted to CRO in January 2022.
  • At the point of promotion the company reported booking volumes up around 600% year over year, travel budget under management up 67% to nearly $6 billion, and 7,500 customers including Heineken, Thomson Reuters and Shopify.
  • Helped drive European expansion off the back of the Comtravo and Reed & Mackay acquisitions.
  • Previously Chief Revenue Officer at Benefix, Senior Vice President of Global Enterprise at WeWork, and a sales leader through various roles at NetSuite.
  • More than sixteen years of experience across successive high-growth startups.
  • Advisor to UtilizeCore since 2023.
  • Navan now reports FY26 revenue of $702 million and over 12,500 active customers.

Professional Journey

McGrail’s career has been spent almost entirely inside high-growth software companies. He began in sales at NetSuite, where he moved through a series of leadership roles during the period when cloud ERP was displacing on-premise systems — a market that rewarded disciplined enterprise selling. He then became Senior Vice President of Global Enterprise at WeWork, selling space at the largest end of the market during that company’s most expansionary phase, and afterwards took his first chief revenue officer role at Benefix.

He joined TripActions in October 2020. The timing is the most informative fact about his tenure: corporate travel had essentially stopped, and a company built on booking volume had no booking volume. What that produced was not a holding pattern but a redirection — the company leaned into expense management and payments, so that when travel returned it returned to a broader platform than the one that had gone into the pandemic.

In January 2022 he was promoted to Chief Revenue Officer, taking global sales and customer success. The numbers announced alongside the promotion reflect a business coming off the floor at speed: bookings up roughly 600% year over year, travel budget under management up 67% to nearly $6 billion, 7,500 customers including Heineken, Thomson Reuters and Shopify. Cohen framed the appointment in terms of balance — the process rigour needed to close global enterprises set against the agility of a company still growing at startup rates. McGrail’s own stated emphasis was the same combination.

Europe was the immediate priority. The acquisitions of Comtravo in Germany and Reed & Mackay in the UK gave the company both local market presence and, in Reed & Mackay’s case, a premium travel-management brand with its own enterprise relationships; it continues to operate under its own name with its own chief executive within Navan. Integrating that into a single revenue organisation, while continuing to sell across company sizes from small business to global enterprise, has been the shape of the job since.

The company has since rebranded from TripActions to Navan and gone public. Its investor-relations reporting puts FY26 revenue at $702 million with more than 12,500 active customers — a different order of business from the one he was promoted into four years earlier.
