Professional Journey

Lyons studied history at St. Mary’s College of California and built his career in enterprise software sales, concentrated in the adjacent markets of cybersecurity, managed file transfer and business-to-business file exchange. He held sales leadership positions at Tumbleweed Communications, a secure messaging and file transfer company, at Axway, where he was Vice President of Sales and led sales teams and go-to-market plans for key vertical markets across North America, and at Imperva, the data and application security company.

That background mapped closely onto Cleo, whose roots lie in secure file transfer and B2B data communications. Cleo announced his appointment as Vice President of Enterprise Sales in January 2016, when the company was still based in Loves Park, Illinois, giving him responsibility for sales strategy and market expansion in North America. He was later Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales before becoming Chief Revenue Officer.

Cleo changed considerably over that period. Its product line consolidated into Cleo Integration Cloud, positioned around ecosystem and supply chain integration, and in June 2021 the company received a strategic growth investment from H.I.G. Capital, succeeding earlier investors Alpine Investors and Peterson Partners. As CRO he now runs the whole of Cleo’s worldwide sales effort, spanning the direct sales force, the channel partner programme and strategic alliances, reporting into a leadership team headed by President and CEO Mahesh Rajasekharan.
