Professional Journey
Stefani graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a Bachelor of Science and spent his career selling enterprise infrastructure software. He held sales leadership positions at EMC, the storage company, and at SAP, where dbt Labs says he was a vice president of sales.
He then spent six years at Rubrik, the data security and backup company, rising to GVP of Americas Sales. dbt Labs credits him with helping Rubrik grow to more than 5,000 customers and over $500 million in cloud software subscription ARR over that period.
On 28 February 2024 dbt Labs named him Chief Revenue Officer. The company, founded by Tristan Handy, had built its business around dbt, which lets analysts and engineers define data transformations as version-controlled code, and at the time reported more than 4,100 dbt Cloud customers. Stefani’s brief was to lead the global sales organization as that customer base moved further into large enterprises. “I look forward to playing a part in its continued expansion while working closely with, and empowering data and analytics leaders across enterprise organizations,” he said on his appointment.
In October 2025 dbt Labs and Fivetran, the data movement company, announced an all-stock merger, which completed on 1 June 2026. The combined company, headquartered in Oakland and initially operating as Fivetran + dbt Labs, is led by Fivetran co-founder George Fraser as CEO with Handy as President. dbt Labs’ own site continues to list Stefani as Chief Revenue Officer.
