Executive Summary
Izzy Rosenzweig is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Portless, a cross-border fulfilment platform for direct-to-consumer brands. Portless inverts the standard e-commerce supply chain: instead of a brand manufacturing in Asia, shipping containers of inventory by sea to a domestic warehouse and paying duty on arrival, Portless holds goods at its own facility in Shenzhen and air-freights individual orders directly to customers once they are placed. Brands therefore carry no domestic inventory, and Portless advances the import duties, which the brand repays only after the goods are sold and have crossed the border. Rosenzweig arrived at the model from the customer side. He had spent eleven years running Browze, a factory-to-consumer retailer he founded in 2012 and grew to roughly 50 million US dollars in revenue, and had built his own fulfilment centre in China to shorten delivery times. When Apple’s 2022 privacy changes broke the advertising economics that Browze depended on, he turned the fulfilment operation into the product and relaunched the business as Portless in May 2023.
Career Highlights
- Founded Browze in 2012 and ran it for eleven years, shipping more than 2.5 million home and kitchen products worldwide and reaching roughly 50 million US dollars at peak revenue.
- Raised approximately 13.5 million US dollars for Browze.
- Opened a company-operated fulfilment centre in China to improve Browze’s delivery experience, the asset that later became Portless’s core infrastructure.
- Transitioned the business into Portless in May 2023, repositioning it from a retailer into a logistics platform for other brands.
- Closed an 18 million US dollar all-equity Series A for Portless in February 2025, led by Commerce Ventures with FJ Labs, eGateway Capital, Red Swan Ventures and Ground Up Ventures.
- Built a duty-deferral mechanism in which Portless fronts import duties and brands repay on sale, improving working capital for mid-sized retailers.
- Serves hundreds of brands with annual revenue between 5 and 150 million US dollars, with reported year-on-year growth of about 300 percent.
Professional Journey
Rosenzweig’s route into commerce was unusual. He studied for the rabbinate at the Rabbinical College of America, taking a bachelor’s degree in Talmudic law, and ran a small business selling sukkahs to his local Jewish community on the side. The side business turned out to be the more durable interest.
In 2012 he founded Browze, a factory-to-consumer e-commerce operation selling home and kitchen goods. Over the following decade Browze shipped more than 2.5 million products, raised roughly 13.5 million US dollars and reached peak revenue of about 50 million US dollars. The persistent problem was delivery time: sourcing directly from Chinese manufacturers meant long transit, and Rosenzweig responded by opening Browze’s own fulfilment centre in China so that orders could be dispatched quickly and directly rather than routed through a domestic warehouse.
The business model broke for reasons outside logistics. Apple’s 2022 privacy changes substantially degraded the targeting that made Browze’s Facebook advertising work, and customer acquisition costs rose to a point where the retail model no longer held. Rosenzweig recognised that the most valuable asset he had built was not the catalogue but the fulfilment operation, and that other direct-to-consumer brands faced exactly the inventory and duty problems it solved. In May 2023 Browze became Portless.
Portless operates a warehouse in Shenzhen and moves small parcels by air rather than containers by sea, which allows brands to sell goods before committing capital to domestic inventory and before paying duty. Growth has been rapid, with the company reporting roughly 300 percent year-on-year expansion across hundreds of mid-sized brands. In February 2025 Portless raised 18 million US dollars in a Series A led by Commerce Ventures, closing shortly before the elimination in May 2025 of the de minimis exemption that had allowed duty-free import of shipments under 800 US dollars from China, a change that made the duty-handling side of the Portless offering considerably more consequential for its customers.
