Professional Journey
Lopes spent about 18 years at Audible. He was there while it was a Nasdaq-listed company and after Amazon acquired it in 2008. In a podcast he put it as “about 10 years before Amazon acquired us” and “almost another 10 years there with Amazon”. As Vice President of Business Development he managed Audible’s mobile and social networking strategies, opened new ways to acquire members, and built partnerships with Apple, Ford, GM, Microsoft and Philips. He then ran Audible UK as managing director. As Executive Vice President of International Operations he oversaw the launch of dedicated services in Australia, Japan and Italy, and strong growth in the UK, Germany and France. In his final role, Chief Revenue Officer, he reported to Audible’s founder and was responsible for revenue growth across the company.
Catapult named him CEO on 30 October 2019, starting on 11 November, and said he would move from New York to its Boston office because North America and Europe were most of its revenue. Executive Chairman Adir Shiffman said most of Catapult’s revenue and growth now came from its subscription software for elite teams. On his appointment, Lopes said the company could become “the Salesforce of the sports performance technology world”. The board said a key task for him would be building out and rolling out internationally the platform behind that software.
The board now lists him as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director. The company says that under his leadership it has achieved record growth in annualized contract value and single-digit customer churn, and has extended its technology beyond elite athletes. It has bought other businesses to widen what it offers teams. In June 2025 it acquired Perch, an MIT spin-out that uses 3D cameras to track athletes’ strength training. The company also credits him with the purchase of SBG Sports Software, a video analysis platform for Formula One. In October 2025 Catapult agreed to buy IMPECT, a German soccer analytics company, and raised A$130 million in an institutional placement. In between, in August 2025, shareholders approved changing the company’s name from Catapult Group International Ltd to Catapult Sports Ltd.
Catapult ended its 2026 financial year with more than US$53 million in cash and no debt. In August 2026 it extended its Western Alliance Bank facility to 2031 and raised it to US$50 million. At the 2026 annual meeting shareholders approved his FY27 incentive grant and a one-off conditional retention award.
