Professional Journey

Vaishnav trained first as an information technology engineer, earning a Bachelor of Engineering from Sardar Patel University, and subsequently accumulated an unusually wide set of graduate credentials: a master’s in computer science, a second master’s in applied biostatistics and epidemiology, and an MBA from the University of Southern California. That combination — software, clinical research methods, and business — maps directly onto the domain she would eventually build for, where the software must satisfy both academic administrators and healthcare compliance requirements.

She spent roughly fifteen years working across healthcare and higher education, including a period as Director of Informatics at the Norris Cancer Center at the University of Southern California. That role sat at the junction of clinical operations and data systems, and gave her direct exposure to how healthcare institutions actually manage information.

She founded Exxat in 2011. Clinical education is a logistical problem that compounds in every direction: a program must find enough clinical placements for every student, verify that each student has the required immunizations, background checks, and certifications for each specific site, track hours and competencies against accreditation standards, and collect evaluations from preceptors who have no relationship with the school’s systems. Getting any part of it wrong can delay a student’s graduation or jeopardize a program’s accreditation, and for most programs the entire apparatus ran on spreadsheets and email.

Exxat built software for that workflow end to end, and its Prism platform grew into the category’s widely adopted option, used by more than 1,300 programs across over 550 academic institutions and more than 6,000 clinical sites nationally. The company has taken private equity backing from Accel-KKR and grown to a reported 251-500 employees. Vaishnav has remained focused on product roadmap and strategy as CEO, and directs the company’s corporate social responsibility work toward educational initiatives for underprivileged children.
