Griffith earned a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University and later completed the Advanced Management Program at the Wharton School, according to Progressive. She joined the company in 1988 as a claims representative and held several managerial positions in the claims division.
In 2002 she was named chief human resources officer. In 2008 she returned to claims as group president, overseeing all claims functions. She then became president of customer operations, overseeing claims and the Customer Relationship Management group, which covers the company’s contact centers for sales and service as well as its customer experience, systems experience and workforce management teams.
In April 2015 she became personal lines chief operating officer, responsible for the Personal Lines, Claims and Customer Relationship Management groups. In July 2016 she was appointed president and chief executive officer and elected to the board. Progressive, an insurance holding company in Mayfield Village, Ohio, wrote $83.2 billion of net premiums in 2025, according to its 10-K.
Under the company’s structure described in its 10-K, the chief executive assesses performance and makes key operating decisions for the insurance, investment and service operations, supported by a management team that includes the heads of finance, marketing, investments, the personal and commercial lines, claims, technology, human resources, customer relationship management and legal. Her 2026 proxy biography lists FedEx Corporation as her current outside public-company board, and FedEx’s own 2026 proxy names her its lead independent director.
At Progressive’s annual meeting in May 2026, shareholders re-elected her as one of eleven directors for a term expiring in 2027, according to the company’s filing of the results. FedEx’s 2026 proxy letter to its stockholders is signed by its chairman and by her as lead independent director.
