Executive Summary

Tony Velleca is Chief Executive Officer of CyberProof, a managed security services company that combines managed detection and response with continuous threat exposure management, and is also acting Chief Information Security Officer of its parent, the IT services company UST. CyberProof exists because of a decision Velleca helped make as UST’s CIO: rather than keep cybersecurity as one more line in an IT services catalogue, UST spun it out as a separate company, on the view that enterprise buyers wanted a disruptive security specialist rather than a generalist. He has run it since, while keeping responsibility for UST’s own security, an unusual pairing in which the head of a security provider is also accountable for defending a large IT services group.

Career Highlights

  • Chief Executive Officer of CyberProof, a UST company, named at the head of its leadership team.
  • Acting Chief Information Security Officer of UST, which he joined in 2000.
  • Served as UST’s Chief Information Officer for several years before CyberProof was created.
  • Led CyberProof’s acquisition of Interpres Security in December 2024, adding continuous threat exposure management and automated security control assessment to its services.
  • Co-founded huddle247.com and served as its CTO; PC Magazine rated it among the top virtual workspace solutions in 2000.
  • Began his career as an aerospace engineer at Boeing and Rolls-Royce, working on conceptual design and propulsion systems for next-generation aircraft.

Professional Journey

Velleca grew up in Atlanta and studied aerospace engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His first career was in aircraft engineering, at Boeing and at Rolls-Royce in North America, where he worked on conceptual design and optimised propulsion systems for next-generation commercial and military aircraft. He moved to California in 1987 and earned an MBA at the University of California, Irvine.

After the MBA he moved into software, co-founding huddle247.com and serving as its CTO; PC Magazine rated it one of the top virtual workspace solutions in 2000. That year he joined UST, then a start-up, and stayed as it grew into a large global IT services company.

At UST he was Chief Information Officer for several years, at a time when much of the company’s work was helping large enterprises through digital transformation. In his account, cybersecurity became an increasingly critical part of that work, and UST concluded it would do better as an independent business: security was somewhat separate from other IT services, and enterprise buyers were looking for a disruptive start-up rather than an incumbent. UST spun off its cybersecurity capabilities as CyberProof, with Velleca as CEO. The company’s own biography credits him with driving its growth since 2016; in a later interview he dates its creation to 2017.

CyberProof began as a managed security services provider built around automation on its own security orchestration, automation and response platform, drawing on Israel-based talent and a co-innovation model with clients. It has since widened into managed detection and response with 24/7 security operations, cyber defence and cyber resilience services. In December 2024 it acquired Interpres Security, a vendor of continuous threat exposure management and automated security control assessment, which Velleca describes as making CyberProof the first managed security provider to offer a complete CTEM capability. In his review of 2025 he pointed to the launch of an agentic AI framework for detection, investigation and response, an SC Award for Best Managed Detection and Response Service, and inclusion in Gartner’s Market Guide for Co-Managed Security Monitoring Services.

Alongside running CyberProof, he serves as UST’s acting CISO.
