Executive Summary

Sean Walters is Chief Revenue Officer of Datadog, Inc., the publicly traded observability platform that monitors cloud infrastructure, applications, logs and, increasingly, security and AI workloads for enterprise customers. He has held the role since January 2022, having been promoted from within: he joined Datadog in 2018 as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales and built out the global selling organization through the company’s steepest growth years. His background is an enterprise-software sales career rather than a general-management one — Medallia, BMC Software, IBM, BEA Systems and ADP — and at Datadog he owns the revenue organization for a business whose land-and-expand, consumption-priced model depends heavily on selling additional products into existing accounts.

Career Highlights

  • Chief Revenue Officer of Datadog since January 2022; named in the company’s 2026 proxy statement as one of eight executive officers, at age 54.
  • Confirmed still in post by a Form 4 filed 15 September 2026 covering an 11 September 2026 transaction, which records his officer title as Chief Revenue Officer.
  • Joined Datadog in 2018 as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales, the role he held for roughly four years before the CRO promotion.
  • At Medallia from April 2013 to February 2018, serving as Regional Vice President from August 2015 and as Area Vice President and General Manager from February 2017.
  • Held sales positions at BMC Software from June 2011 to April 2013.
  • Earlier in his career held sales positions at IBM, BEA Systems and ADP.

Professional Journey

Walters built his career in enterprise software sales, starting with sales positions at ADP, BEA Systems and IBM — three companies whose selling models span payroll services, application-server middleware and full-stack enterprise IT. He moved to BMC Software in June 2011, staying until April 2013 in a series of sales roles.

In April 2013 he joined Medallia, then a growing SaaS customer-experience company, and stayed almost five years. He was promoted to Regional Vice President in August 2015 and then to Area Vice President and General Manager in February 2017, adding general-management responsibility to a quota-carrying role for the first time.

He left Medallia in February 2018 and joined Datadog the same year as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales. Datadog went public in September 2019, and Walters ran the worldwide sales organization through that transition and the expansion of the product line beyond infrastructure monitoring into APM, logs, security and digital experience monitoring. In January 2022 Datadog promoted him to Chief Revenue Officer, announcing the appointment alongside that of Kerry Acocella as General Counsel.

He remains in the role. Datadog’s proxy statement filed in April 2026 lists him among the company’s executive officers, and his most recent Form 4, filed on 15 September 2026, reports him as an officer of Datadog with the title Chief Revenue Officer. The executive team around him has changed over that period — Datadog has since added a Chief Operating Officer and a Chief Product Officer — but his own position has not.
