Executive Summary

Ross Bacarella is Chief Executive Officer and President of BTX Global Logistics, a freight-forwarding and logistics company headquartered in Shelton, Connecticut. It is a family business in the full sense: his father founded its predecessor, Bacarella Transportation Express, as a single trucking terminal in Stratford, and Bacarella joined after college and, with his brother, grew it into a national forwarder and rebranded it as BTX. The company now describes a network of more than 40 regional branches across the United States and Canada, providing air, ground and ocean freight, warehousing and fulfilment. He has been recognised locally as a business leader and for two decades of community work, and has held board positions with the Air Forwarders Association.

Professional Journey

Bacarella was born in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up in Trumbull, Connecticut, where he attended St. Joseph High School. He went on to Nichols College in Massachusetts, where he played running back on the football team and majored in management and marketing.

The year he finished high school, his father, Anthony, founded Bacarella Transportation Express in Stratford, Connecticut. Bacarella joined the firm after college. Starting from a single terminal, he and his brother built the company up substantially, doing whatever the work required, down to driving forklifts, and rebranded it as BTX. BTX dates its start to 1980.

He has led the business for more than two decades as Chief Executive Officer and President. By 2018 BTX had 28 regional offices and about 350 employees, around 100 of them at its Shelton headquarters, and offered air, ground and sea freight, warehouse fulfilment and e-commerce services. Hearst Connecticut Media named him that year’s Top Leader among small employers in its Top Workplaces programme; he credited the recognition to a workplace deliberately built around employee satisfaction. By 2019 the company described more than 30 regional branches across North America, and it now reports more than 40 across the U.S. and Canada. BTX attributes its position to his focus on service, innovation and technology, including operational systems designed to move cargo by the most cost-efficient route.

Within the industry he has held board positions on the Air Forwarders Association and on various international forwarding networks. Outside the business, he coached Trumbull Pop Warner football for more than 18 years, mentored young adults and supported initiatives at St. Joseph High School, work that contributed to his 2019 induction into the Junior Achievement of Greater Fairfield County Hall of Fame.
