Professional Journey

Ravi Kumar began his career as a nuclear scientist at the Bhabha Atomic Research Center in India. He then moved into technology consulting, working as a senior consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers from 1996 to 2000, as an AVP at Cambridge Technology Partners from 2000 to 2001, as a business manager at Oracle from 2001 to 2002 and, in 2002, as a director at Sapient, now Publicis Sapient.

He joined Infosys in 2002 and stayed for twenty years. Cognizant’s account of that period describes a progression through delivery and industry leadership: he led the Global Delivery organization, where he built the Oracle and CRM practices, and was Group Head for the Insurance, Healthcare, and Cards and Payments unit. In January 2016 he became President of Infosys, leading the global services organization across all industry segments, spanning digital transformation, consulting, technology and engineering services, data and analytics, and cloud and infrastructure. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Infosys BPM Ltd. He left the presidency in October 2022.

In January 2023 Cognizant appointed him Chief Executive Officer and a member of its Board, succeeding Brian Humphries. As CEO he sets the company’s strategic direction, and the company’s 2026 proxy statement lists his qualifications as technology and consulting services, talent management and public company leadership. In 2025 Cognizant reported revenue of $21.1 billion, up 7.0% year over year. Shareholders re-elected him to the Board at the annual meeting on 2 June 2026.

Outside Cognizant he has held a series of board and policy roles. He joined the TransUnion board in 2022 and was a director of Digimarc from 2021 to 2023. He has sat on the Board of Governors of the New York Academy of Sciences since 2020 and the board of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce since 2021, chairing its Artificial Intelligence Working Group since 2024. He joined the board of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum in 2024, and from 2024 to 2026 was Information and Communication Technologies Industry Community Chair at the World Economic Forum.
