Egnyte was founded to solve a problem that in 2008 was not yet fashionable: large organisations wanted the convenience of cloud file sharing without giving up control of where their content physically lived. Its answer was hybrid — content in the cloud, content behind the firewall, and one governed view across both — and that architectural choice is the reason the company ended up strong in industries where files are enormous and regulated, notably architecture, engineering and construction, life sciences and financial services. Ram was one of the co-founders, alongside chief executive Vineet Jain, chief technology officer Amrit Jassal and chief security officer Kris Lahiri, all four of whom are still with the company.
