Professional Journey

Banga spent more than two decades at Infosys in global leadership positions spanning strategy, business development, service delivery, operations and mergers and acquisitions. Much of that time was on the products side of the business: Infosys management described him in 2017 as integral to its product strategy from the beginning, a member of the earlier product and platform group and later head of sales for its Edge platforms. In 2017, when the chief executive of EdgeVerve, the Infosys products subsidiary, left, Infosys appointed Banga, then a 20-year veteran of the company, as its CEO.

He moved to GlobalLogic, the digital engineering services company, as Chief Operating Officer and later became its President and CEO. GlobalLogic was acquired by Hitachi during this period, and Virtusa credits him with overseeing both the company’s growth as a design-led digital engineering business and its integration into the Hitachi group. He then served as CEO of Hitachi’s digital engineering business unit.

Virtusa named him President and Chief Executive Officer effective 3 February 2025, succeeding Santosh Thomas, who remained as a strategic advisor through the handover. Virtusa had been taken private four years earlier, when an entity majority owned by Baring Private Equity Asia completed its acquisition of the then publicly listed company in February 2021. On his appointment Banga framed the opportunity in terms of customers’ adoption of digital and AI technologies backed by a robust data strategy.

His tenure has included a move down the technology stack. In December 2025 Virtusa acquired SmartSoC Solutions, an Indian semiconductor engineering services firm with more than 1,400 employees and five design centres; Banga called it transformational, establishing Virtusa in semiconductor engineering and giving it a service offering that runs from silicon to customer applications. In September 2026 he welcomed Srinivas BG as Virtusa’s new chairman, succeeding Raj Mehta.
