Executive Summary

Mathias Thulin is a co-founder and the Chief Strategy Officer of GetAccept, the Malmö-founded company behind one of the earliest digital sales rooms — a single shared space where a seller and a buyer can exchange video, content, live chat, proposals and finally a signature, instead of scattering a deal across email threads and attachments. Founded in 2015 by four Swedes who then moved to Silicon Valley for Y Combinator’s Winter 2016 batch, GetAccept has raised roughly $30 million and grown to around 150 people across Malmö, Stockholm, Copenhagen, New York and Marseille. For Thulin it is a second act in the same problem space: he had already founded ProspectEye, a Nordic lead-generation and marketing-automation platform, and run it through an acquisition by Apsis before GetAccept began.

Career Highlights

  • Co-founded GetAccept in 2015 alongside Samir Smajic, Jonas Blanck and Carl Carell, and serves as Chief Strategy Officer.
  • Took the company through Y Combinator’s Winter 2016 batch, relocating with his co-founders to Silicon Valley.
  • Founded ProspectEye in 2007 with Jonas Blanck and built it into one of the Nordics’ leading lead-generation and marketing-automation platforms; Apsis acquired it in December 2013, and the combined business turned over 250 million Swedish kronor in 2014.
  • Helped raise GetAccept’s roughly $30 million in funding across a $1.6 million seed round, a $7 million Series A in 2019 led by DN Capital, and a $20 million Series B in December 2020 led by Bessemer Venture Partners.
  • Named Entrepreneur of the Year in Malmö in 2020.
  • Named “SaaSiest Man in the Nordics” in 2021 by the Nordic SaaS community, and a frequent speaker on product-led growth.

Professional Journey

Thulin took a Master of Science in Engineering and Industrial Management at Lund University’s Faculty of Engineering, the technical school that also produced three of his four eventual GetAccept co-founders — an unusually tight Malmö-Lund cluster that shows up repeatedly in his career.

In 2007 he founded ProspectEye with Jonas Blanck and became its chief executive. ProspectEye worked on lead generation and marketing automation at a point when the Nordic market for both was immature, and it became one of the region’s leading platforms in the category. In December 2013 it was acquired by Apsis, the Scandinavian email-marketing company, in a merger framed at the time as consolidating Apsis’ position as the leading provider of email marketing and marketing automation in Scandinavia. Thulin stayed with the combined business as Commercial Product Manager at APSIS International into January 2016.

GetAccept began in 2015, overlapping the tail of his Apsis tenure. The founding team — Smajic from CRM, Blanck from email marketing technology, Carell from sales and marketing, and Thulin from lead generation — assembled around a gap they had each hit from a different direction: the point where a sales conversation stops being marketing and becomes a document, and where the seller loses visibility exactly when it matters most. GetAccept’s answer was to keep the whole late stage of the deal in one tracked, interactive space, with e-signature as the endpoint rather than the product.

The four founders were accepted into Y Combinator’s Winter 2016 batch and moved to Silicon Valley. Funding followed in steps: a $1.6 million seed with Y Combinator among the investors, a $7 million Series A in 2019 led by DN Capital with BootstrapLabs, Y Combinator and several of Spotify’s early backers, and a $20 million Series B in December 2020 led by Bessemer Venture Partners, timed to a moment when the pandemic had made remote deal-closing a requirement rather than a preference.

As Chief Strategy Officer, Thulin’s public work has centred on product-led growth — the argument that a sales-software company should acquire its own customers the way its product tells customers to, through the product rather than through a sales team. He was named Entrepreneur of the Year in Malmö in 2020 and “SaaSiest Man in the Nordics” by the regional SaaS community in 2021, and speaks regularly in that circuit.
