Professional Journey
Bubbers graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania. She studied art history and visual studies, a major Penn had just created that combined art history and visual arts with the science, philosophy and communications of visual culture. Her first job was as an assistant on the branding and integration team at Ogilvy, working on experiential activations. She then spent three years with the designer Jonathan Adler, first as his assistant and then on his partnerships and brand licensing team, where she has said she learned how to build a distinctive brand, design retail environments and structure collaborations. She then joined Homepolish, a start-up that aimed to make interior design affordable for people on tighter budgets, as its sixth employee. There she learned to manage and grow a team and to build a brand through organic marketing.
Studs came out of a friendship. Bubbers and Anna Harman had known each other for a decade when, in 2019, Harman went for a second piercing. The premium studio she tried in New York was packed and expensive, and the tattoo shop was professional but had a poor jewellery selection. The two concluded that ear piercing was ripe for reinvention for millennial and Gen Z customers. Studs opened that year, combining piercing with consultations, aftercare check-ins and affordable earrings sold both in store and online. In November 2019 it announced a $3M seed round led by Hayley Barna of First Round Capital, with Lerer Hippeau participating. Bubbers ran the brand and marketing side as chief brand and marketing officer. By October 2022 Studs had opened its 15th location, with more than 250 earring styles in a typical store.
She then joined Orchestra, a strategic communications and marketing company, as Chief Brand Officer. Orchestra says she leads its strategy, bringing a customer-centric approach to brand growth and industry transformation. She works in a leadership team headed by CEO Jonathan Rosen and President Jesse Derris.
