Executive Summary

Erik Fowler is Chief Revenue & Operating Officer at Allego, the Waltham-based revenue enablement platform, where he owns sales, marketing and customer success. He is an unusual profile for a revenue chief in that his reputation was made at a single company over fourteen years rather than through a sequence of two-year turnarounds: he joined LiveVox in 2009 when it was a private contact-centre software business, ran worldwide sales and business operations from 2014, and was its Chief Revenue Officer when it went public on NASDAQ in June 2021. Before software he spent seven years as a United States Navy officer, most recently aboard the AEGIS cruiser USS Lake Erie. The argument he brought to Allego is the one his own career illustrates - that selling has changed faster than sales organizations have, and that teams which do not adopt modern enablement tooling will simply be outpaced.

Career Highlights

  • Chief Revenue & Operating Officer of Allego since June 2023, responsible for sales, marketing and customer success.
  • Fourteen years at LiveVox: joined the predecessor entity in 2009, Executive Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Business Operations from April 2014, and Chief Revenue Officer from the June 2021 public listing until January 2023.
  • Grew the business he ran commercially from $20 million to more than $134 million in revenue and supported two NASDAQ listings.
  • Vice President of Major Accounts at SoundBite Communications from January 2004 to January 2009.
  • Earlier senior sales management roles at The CCS Companies and at Parametric Technology Corporation.
  • Seven years as a United States Navy officer, most recently aboard the AEGIS cruiser USS Lake Erie (CG 70).
  • B.A. in Political Science, Virginia Tech.

Professional Journey

Fowler began in the Navy, serving seven years as an officer and finishing aboard the USS Lake Erie, an AEGIS guided-missile cruiser - a posting whose defining characteristic is the management of a complex integrated system under time pressure, which is not the worst preparation for running a revenue organization. He moved into commercial roles from there, taking senior sales management positions at Parametric Technology Corporation and at The CCS Companies before joining SoundBite Communications in January 2004 as Vice President of Major Accounts, a role he held for five years at the company that pioneered automated voice messaging as a hosted service.

In 2009 he joined LiveVox, then a private company selling cloud contact-centre software into the collections and customer-engagement market. He stayed fourteen years. From April 2014 he was Executive Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Business Operations, which put both the selling and the commercial machinery underneath it in his hands, and he held that combined brief through the company’s growth from roughly $20 million of revenue to more than $134 million. When LiveVox completed the business combination that listed it on NASDAQ in June 2021, he took the title of Chief Revenue Officer.

That chapter ended abruptly. LiveVox terminated his employment on 13 January 2023, effective the twentieth, as part of a company cost-reduction plan - a fact disclosed in the company’s own filing rather than in any announcement of his next move, and a reminder that the post-SPAC cohort of 2021 listings spent 2022 and 2023 cutting hard. He was out of post for about five months.

Allego named him Chief Revenue Officer in June 2023, with the title later expanded to Chief Revenue & Operating Officer. Allego sells revenue enablement software - training, content and coaching tooling for sales teams - to more than a thousand customers, weighted toward financial services and healthcare, and the fit with Fowler is direct: he spent two decades on the buying side of exactly that problem. His stated position on taking the role was blunt about the stakes, that the way organizations sell is changing rapidly and those not using modern enablement tools will be left behind.
