Professional Journey

Schulman earned a bachelor’s degree at Middlebury College and an MBA in finance at New York University’s Stern School of Business. He held senior leadership roles at AT&T, where Verizon says he became the youngest member of its senior executive team, and at Priceline, Virgin Mobile USA, where he built a prepaid cellphone business, and American Express, where he expanded global mobile and online payment services.

From 2015 to December 2023 he was President and Chief Executive Officer of PayPal Holdings, leading its transformation into a global payments platform. He served for nearly 20 years as a director of NortonLifeLock, formerly Symantec, six of them as independent chairman, and on the boards of Cisco and Flex.

He joined Verizon’s board in 2018 and became its Independent Lead Director in December 2024. In October 2025 he was appointed Chief Executive Officer. He is Lead Independent Director of Lazard, chair of JUST Capital, a trustee of The Paley Center for Media and a board member of Cleveland Clinic.
