Professional Journey

Stankey earned a bachelor’s degree in finance at Loyola Marymount University and an MBA at UCLA, and began his career with the company in 1985.

He was Chief Information Officer from 2003, Chief Technology Officer from 2004 to 2006, Group President of Telecom Operations, and President and CEO of AT&T Operations from 2008 to 2010 and of AT&T Business Solutions from 2010 to 2011. He then served as Chief Strategy Officer from 2012 to 2015 and CEO of AT&T Entertainment Group from 2015 to 2017.

From June 2018 he led Warner Media as CEO, and in October 2019 became AT&T’s President and Chief Operating Officer. He became Chief Executive Officer and President in July 2020 and Chairman in February 2025.
