Barrett’s career has centred on selling cloud transformation. By September 2022 he was Global Head of Sales at Qarik, a multinational Google Cloud Premier Partner founded in 2019, which described itself as a team of former Googlers, Wall Street veterans and delivery specialists who embedded in client teams to speed up cloud-native practices. In that role he spoke for the company on the importance of its partner ecosystem to its growth.

In October 2024 Egen announced it was acquiring Qarik. Egen had been built through the combination of SpringML and Egen Solutions under Recognize’s ownership, and had more than 700 technology specialists across Canada, India and the United States. The acquisition gave the combined company more than 800 certified architects and engineers and Egen said it would reinforce its positioning as the premier independent services partner for Google Cloud clients. The business continued under the Egen brand, with Qarik’s founder Joe Schenk becoming Chief Client Officer.

Barrett now leads Egen’s commercial business. Egen’s leadership has changed since the deal: Saleem Janmohamed was Chairman and CEO at the acquisition and still in late 2025, and by July 2026 the company was quoting Alim Somani as CEO. Barrett has appeared with Somani in a Google Cloud Partner AI forum session, and at Google Cloud Next he discussed with Jeff Frick the shift from simple chatbots to autonomous, goal-oriented AI agents, and his view that outcomes and pragmatic change management matter more than the tools.
