Executive Summary

Suku Krishnaraj Chettiar is Chief Operating Officer and President of Go-to-Market at Hasura, where he runs sales, marketing, post-sales and operations as a single organisation reporting to chief executive Tanmai Gopal. Hasura made its name solving a developer problem: the Hasura GraphQL Engine and the later Data Delivery Network gave engineers fast, permissioned access to data spread across many systems without hand-building an API for each one. The company has since turned that foundation toward a harder problem. PromptQL, the platform it now leads with, exists because AI applied to enterprise data fails in two specific ways — it lacks the shared context that lives in people’s heads rather than in schemas, and it cannot be trusted to honour the permissions of every underlying system. Hasura’s argument is that its metadata layer and its enforcement of permissions at the data layer are precisely what make AI reliable on real corporate data. Krishnaraj arrived in September 2024 to build the commercial organisation for that thesis, bringing twenty-five years in cloud software, including eight as Chief Marketing Officer of Sumo Logic.

Career Highlights

  • Chief Operating Officer and President of Go-to-Market at Hasura since September 2024, in a newly created role covering sales, marketing, post-sales and operations.
  • Reports directly to Hasura co-founder and chief executive Tanmai Gopal.
  • Spent eight years as Chief Marketing Officer of Sumo Logic, a period in which the company’s revenue grew thirtyfold.
  • General Manager of the cloud portfolio at CenturyLink.
  • Senior Vice President of Product Strategy at SolarWinds.
  • Chief Marketing Officer of AppFog earlier in his career.
  • Twenty-five years of experience scaling technology companies from startups through to multi-billion-dollar enterprises.
  • Leads go-to-market during Hasura’s shift from GraphQL data access to PromptQL, a platform the company has raised more than $135 million to build.

Professional Journey

Krishnaraj trained as a computer scientist at Mysore University and later took an MBA at Santa Clara University, a combination that has carried him across the boundary between product and go-to-market repeatedly rather than settling on one side of it.

His early leadership roles ran through the platform-as-a-service and infrastructure markets. He was Chief Marketing Officer of AppFog, one of the early PaaS companies, then Senior Vice President of Product Strategy at SolarWinds, the IT management software vendor, and General Manager of the cloud portfolio at CenturyLink — a telecommunications carrier attempting to build a cloud business. Those three roles between them cover product strategy, portfolio management and marketing at very different kinds of company.

The defining stretch was Sumo Logic, where he served eight years as Chief Marketing Officer. Sumo Logic sells cloud-native log analytics and security analytics, competing in observability, and the company’s revenue grew thirtyfold over his tenure. Eight years in a chief marketing officer role is unusually long by the standards of the function, and it gave him a full cycle of experience in taking a technical infrastructure product from early growth through to scale.

Hasura recruited him in September 2024 as Chief Operating Officer and President of Go-to-Market. The role was created rather than filled, and its breadth is the point: marketing, sales, post-sales and operations under one leader, reporting to the founder-CEO, for a company whose customers are developers and whose buyers increasingly are not.

Since then the company’s centre of gravity has shifted. PromptQL, built by the Hasura team on the metadata and permissions foundation the earlier products established, is now the company’s lead offering, positioned around making AI dependable on enterprise data — capturing shared context as people work rather than extracting it once, and enforcing each user’s actual permissions deterministically at the data layer. Hasura says it has raised more than $135 million against that vision. Krishnaraj has become one of its public explainers, arguing that hallucination is a curiosity in consumer chatbots and a disqualifying defect in mission-critical enterprise settings.
