Executive Summary
JD Choi is President and CEO of Tax Technologies, Inc. (TTI), a corporate tax software company headquartered in Haworth, New Jersey, which he co-created in January 2000 with Biren Patel. He is a tax professional who went on to build software, not a software executive who later learned tax. He spent the years before TTI as an international tax consultant at large accounting firms. There he concluded that the tools corporate tax departments had to work with were inadequate and fragmented. TTI’s flagship product, Tax Series, is his answer to that problem: a single-database SaaS platform for U.S. corporate income tax compliance, global tax provision, planning and reporting.

- Co-created Tax Technologies, Inc. with Biren Patel in January 2000 and leads it as President and CEO.

- Extended Tax Series to cover BEPS (Base Erosion and Profit Shifting) country-by-country reporting, and offers it as a standard solution for multinational corporations.
- Grew TTI into a company with offices in Haworth, New Jersey and Gandhinagar, India, which describes itself as having more than 300 employees.
- Worked as an international tax consultant at Arthur Andersen and Deloitte before founding TTI.
- Holds a J.D. from New York Law School and a B.B.A. in Accounting from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Professional Journey
Choi trained in accounting at the University of Texas at Arlington and in law at New York Law School. He then became an international tax consultant at large accounting firms. According to his company’s biography, he worked at Arthur Andersen and Deloitte alongside Biren Patel, who later co-founded TTI with him. Besides consulting, he worked on software development and tax process optimization projects for multinational companies. That work showed him the gap his company would later fill: corporate tax departments were assembling complex computations, large provisions and compliance filings from tools that did not fit together.
In January 2000 he and Patel established Tax Technologies, Inc. with the goal of building a streamlined global tax management system. The product became Tax Series. Its central design choice is a single database: data imported for one purpose, such as compliance, can be reused for others, such as provision or planning. It also supports multi-year computation, which makes year-over-year comparison and multi-year planning easier. The company says Choi supplies the product’s vision, drawing on his own experience with complex tax computations and large provision and compliance projects.
The product grew in scope as the rules did. When OECD and G20 countries adopted standardized reporting under the BEPS initiative, TTI built that capability into Tax Series for a large corporate client, then turned it into a standard offering for multinationals. The company says it grew organically, expanding from the U.S. into India, where it runs an office in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. It reports clients with more than 2,000 global users of Tax Series and describes itself as a certified Minority-owned Business Enterprise with over 300 employees. Patel remains alongside him as Vice President and COO.
According to his company biography, Choi is a member of the Texas State CPA, the AICPA and the ABA, and of the New York State and New Jersey State bar associations.
