Executive Summary

Bryan Smith is Chief Executive Officer of Expedient, a full-stack cloud service provider headquartered on Pittsburgh’s North Shore, and has held the role since 1 January 2023. He is an unusually long-tenured insider for a chief executive: he was one of the company’s initial employees in 2001 and worked through its evolution from a fixed-wireless internet service provider into a data center and infrastructure-as-a-service business, serving most recently as SVP and Chief Strategy Officer before the board named him to succeed Shawn McGorry, who became Chairman.

Career Highlights

  • Chief Executive Officer of Expedient since 1 January 2023; quoted as CEO in company releases as recently as February 2026.
  • One of Expedient’s initial employees in 2001, credited by the company with helping identify expansion and acquisition opportunities as it grew.
  • Previously SVP and Chief Strategy Officer, responsible for strategic growth, product design, marketing and business development.
  • Earlier held sales leadership at the company, according to Technical.ly’s coverage of his appointment.
  • Named one of the Top 20 People to Know in Technology by Business First in 2013.

Professional Journey

Smith joined Expedient at its start in 2001, when the business was a fixed-wireless internet service provider. The company’s biography says he was involved at every stage of what followed, as Expedient built out data centers and moved into infrastructure as a service, and credits him with identifying the expansion and acquisition opportunities that drove that growth. Technical.ly, reporting on his appointment, noted that his roles at the company included sales executive before he became Chief Strategy Officer.

As SVP and Chief Strategy Officer he oversaw strategic growth, product design, marketing and business development. In January 2023 Expedient announced that he would become Chief Executive Officer effective 1 January, after a selection process Technical.ly described as lasting four months. The same announcement moved Shawn McGorry, the previous President and CEO, into the role of Chairman, promoted Jonathan Rosenson to President while keeping his Chief Operating Officer responsibilities, and made Dennis Musolino Chief Revenue Officer. At the time, Technical.ly reported that Expedient employed about 400 people, around 160 of them in Pittsburgh, with data centers in markets including Pittsburgh, Phoenix and Denver.

Speaking on his appointment, Smith framed the market as a “chapter two” of cloud computing, in which organizations place workloads deliberately across on-premises, private and public environments rather than moving everything to the hyperscale providers. Under his leadership Expedient has continued to position itself around hybrid cloud, disaster recovery and VMware and Nutanix platforms, and more recently around AI: in February 2026 it expanded its AI CTRL Platform with an Agentic Workflow Engine and an AI Outcomes Team, and in April 2026 it launched a VMware continuity programme. The company names InfraBridge, now a division of DigitalBridge Group, as its investor.
