Executive Summary

Adam Oldfield is Chief Executive Officer of Phoebus Software, a UK company that has built and run lending and savings servicing software since 1989 and now concentrates on specialist lenders, challenger banks and building societies. He is a commercial leader rather than a founder: he joined Phoebus in 2019 to professionalise its client management, moved through its growth and revenue leadership roles, and took over from the long-serving Paul Hunt as managing director in July 2024 before being named chief executive. He came to the company after a financial services sales career that included senior roles at Unisys and Vertex Financial Services.

Career Highlights

  • Chief Executive Officer of Phoebus Software, named in that role in trade press from May 2025, and a director of Phoebus Software Limited since June 2025.
  • Promoted to managing director from 1 July 2024, succeeding Paul Hunt, who had led the business for 20 years and became vice chair.
  • Joined Phoebus in 2019 as head of sales and account management, then served as chief growth officer and chief revenue officer.
  • About six years at Unisys as Vice President of Sales for EMEA Financial Services.
  • Nearly two years as Sales Director at Vertex Financial Services, with earlier roles at Oakwood Global Finance and HML.

Professional Journey

Oldfield spent his early career in financial services, including roles at HML and Oakwood Global Finance, before moving into technology and outsourcing sales. He was Sales Director at Vertex Financial Services for nearly two years and then spent around six years at Unisys as Vice President of Sales for its EMEA financial services business.

Phoebus hired him in 2019 as head of sales and account management. Its chief sales and marketing officer, Richard Pike, later said the company needed a head of client management at that point in order to become more corporate. Oldfield went on to serve as chief growth officer and chief revenue officer, and on 1 July 2024 he was promoted to managing director, taking over from Paul Hunt, who had run Phoebus for two decades and moved to vice chair of the board. At that handover the company reported 140 staff and about £110 billion of assets under management on its platform, serving more than 25 financial institutions.

Phoebus began in 1989 as a core banking platform built for Heritable Bank in London, which its developers then sold to other lenders. It has since specialised in servicing loans, savings and deposits for specialist lenders, and in 2025 its leadership described the building society sector as a major focus. By May 2025 he was being described as the company’s chief executive, and in June 2025 he joined the board of Phoebus Software Limited as Hunt stepped off it. Under his leadership the company has reshaped its technology team, appointing Robin Jeffery as chief technology officer in May 2025, and is moving clients onto a software-as-a-service platform as it shifts from selling a product to providing a service.
