Executive Summary

Zaky Prabowo is co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of WeTravel, which sells booking, payments and trip-management software to companies that run multi-day group trips, from yoga retreats and safaris to student tours. He started the company in 2014 with two classmates and a technical co-founder while at Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, and he now runs its operations. Before business school he worked at McKinsey in Jakarta, then on a team that monitored Indonesian government ministries for the president’s office. WeTravel says it now serves more than 10,000 operators with more than 400 staff. In September 2025 it raised a $92 million Series C led by Sapphire Ventures, and its Form D for that round names him as an executive officer and director.

Career Highlights

  • Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of WeTravel, responsible for the company’s operations, per its own leadership page.
  • Named as an executive officer and director of Wetravel Inc in the company’s September 2025 SEC Form D.
  • Co-founded WeTravel in 2014 with Johannes Koeppel and Garib Mehdiyev. It raised a $2 million seed round in 2018, a $27 million Series B in 2022 and a $92 million Series C in 2025.
  • Served as the company’s Chief Marketing Officer in its early years, as reported by Poets&Quants in 2015 and Berkeley Haas in 2018.
  • Created Indorelawan, which Poets&Quants described in 2015 as Indonesia’s first and largest volunteer-matching platform.
  • Worked at McKinsey & Company’s Jakarta office before joining a presidential team monitoring government ministries.

Professional Journey

Prabowo was born in Indonesia. According to a 2015 Poets&Quants profile, he was among the first Indonesian-educated hires at McKinsey & Company and spent three years as a business analyst in its Jakarta office. He then left to join a small team set up by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to track how well government ministries were performing. On one project in that role he set up a partnership between Google Earth Engine and the Indonesian government to build a satellite-based system for monitoring forest degradation. He has said that project convinced him to go to business school. Around the same time he created Indorelawan, a platform that matches volunteers with non-profit organisations. Poets&Quants described it as Indonesia’s first volunteer-matching platform.

At UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, where he graduated with the MBA class of 2015, he met Johannes Koeppel, a former Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders worker who had come to Haas with a plan for a group-travel business. With Garib Mehdiyev as the technical co-founder, the three started WeTravel in 2014. It began as booking software for student trips and grew out of the difficulty organisers had collecting money from groups. The founders went through Berkeley’s LAUNCH accelerator and worked out of SkyDeck. In the early years Koeppel was CEO and Prabowo was CMO. The company’s 2024 bio describes him as WeTravel’s first customer-support “employee”, who then worked on product with the other co-founders before moving into operations.

WeTravel raised $2 million in seed funding in 2018, led by Haas alumnus Brett Wilson. It raised $27 million in a Series B in 2022, led by Left Lane Capital and Base10 Partners. In 2023 it appointed Ted Clements as CEO, and Koeppel moved into a product role. In 2025 the company relaunched its product as an operating system for multi-day travel operators, opened an office in Sydney and, on 24 September 2025, announced a $92 million Series C led by Sapphire Ventures. The company says the round tripled its valuation. Its Form D lists Prabowo among the executive officers and directors. WeTravel now names him Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer and says he manages the company’s operations. The company reports offices in the Netherlands, the United States, Australia and Azerbaijan. His 2024 company bio says that after moving to the United States he relocated again, to Amsterdam.
