Executive Summary

Trent Vichie is the founder and chief executive of EverWind, a Nova Scotia-based company developing green hydrogen, green ammonia and onshore wind projects in Atlantic Canada. He came to it from the investing side of infrastructure: he co-founded Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners with Michael Dorrell in 2011 after the two had run the infrastructure business at Blackstone, and he left Stonepeak to start EverWind in 2021. EverWind has since built a pipeline around the former NuStar terminal at Point Tupper on the Strait of Canso and a second site on Newfoundland’s Burin Peninsula, and in March 2026 announced a US$175 million strategic investment from Nuveen for the wind portfolio that would power its first phase.

Career Highlights

  • Founder and CEO of EverWind, named as such on the company’s team page and in its March 2026 press release.
  • Led EverWind’s 2022 purchase of the Point Tupper energy storage terminal in Nova Scotia from NuStar Energy, reported at $76.9 million.
  • Announced a US$175 million (C$240 million) investment from Nuveen Energy Infrastructure Credit in March 2026 to advance a 650+ MW onshore wind portfolio in which a Membertou First Nation-led consortium holds majority ownership.
  • Appeared before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance in April 2024, reporting more than $200 million invested and completion of front-end engineering design for Phase 1.
  • Co-founded Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners in 2011; earlier a Senior Managing Director at The Blackstone Group and a Managing Director at Macquarie Bank.

Professional Journey

Vichie trained as an actuary in Australia, taking a master’s degree in economics (actuarial studies) at Macquarie University in Sydney, and later became a CFA charterholder. His career was in infrastructure investment: he was a managing director at Macquarie Bank and then a senior managing director at The Blackstone Group, where he and Michael Dorrell ran the infrastructure business.

In 2011 the two left Blackstone and founded Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners. EverWind describes his record there and before in its own terms: 25 years of infrastructure investing, more than $15 billion raised in institutional capital from over 100 investors, over $20 billion in infrastructure investments managed, and seats on the boards of seven infrastructure companies across renewable energy, utilities, transportation, water and communications. In October 2020 Infrastructure Investor reported that he would retire from Stonepeak the following year.

He established EverWind in November 2021. Its inaugural project began with a physical asset rather than a greenfield site: in 2022 it bought NuStar Energy’s Point Tupper terminal in Nova Scotia, with its tank farm, rail loading and ice-free deep-water port, as the base for a green hydrogen and ammonia export hub. The Point Tupper Green Fuels Project in Nova Scotia and the Burin Peninsula Green Fuels Project in Newfoundland and Labrador became the company’s two flagship developments.

The company’s public record since then is a sequence of approvals, funding and engineering milestones. EverWind announced completion of front-end engineering design for its first-phase 240,000-tonne-per-year green ammonia plant in March 2024, and in April 2024 Vichie told Parliament’s finance committee that the company had invested over $200 million in the preceding two years and had secured a $125 million loan from Export Development Canada in November 2023. Environmental assessment approvals followed for a 2-gigawatt transmission line in April 2025 and for several wind projects in 2025 and 2026, and the company invested $50 million in a tugboat fleet for the Strait of Canso.

In March 2026 EverWind announced a US$175 million (C$240 million) strategic investment from Nuveen Energy Infrastructure Credit to advance a 650-plus megawatt onshore wind portfolio across Nova Scotia, part of a first phase the company puts at over $2 billion. A Membertou First Nation-led Indigenous consortium holds majority ownership of the Phase 1 wind projects. The company stated that construction was planned to begin in 2026, with commercial operations targeted for 2028.
