Professional Journey

Singh trained as an engineer, with a Bachelor of Technology from Punjab Technical University and a Master of Science in engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, and later took an MBA at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. His early career included senior management positions at Dell Technologies.

At Amazon he worked on two parts of the retail machine that bear directly on what Chewy does. From 2013 to 2015 he was General Manager for Amazon’s North American merchant fulfillment and third-party businesses, and from 2015 to 2017 he was Worldwide Director of the Consumables business, covering fresh and pantry goods: repeat-purchase categories where logistics, pricing and replenishment decide the economics.

He joined Chewy as Chief Operating Officer in September 2017 and was named Chief Executive Officer in March 2018. Pet food and supplies are a consumables business in much the same sense, and Chewy’s model rests on the same repeat-purchase dynamics. Under his leadership the company completed its initial public offering in 2019, raising more than $1 billion, joined its own board that April, and expanded outside the United States in 2023. Chewy describes itself as a Fortune 500 company and reports revenue of more than $11 billion by 2023, more than triple its size in 2018. It remains a controlled company: funds advised by BC Partners hold a majority of the voting power.

In April 2022 he joined the board of directors of Booking Holdings, the online travel group.

He is a dog owner; his Chewy biography notes that he has a Shih Tzu.
