Professional Journey

Veerina trained as an engineer twice over, taking an MSc in Electronics and Physics at Andhra University and an MS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering at Purdue, and began in engineering roles at SynOptics Communications and Amdahl Corporation — two companies at the centre of the networking and mainframe worlds of the late 1980s and early 1990s.

His first venture as a principal was Ramp Networks, which he founded and ran as President and Chief Executive Officer. Ramp built internet access devices for small offices at the moment when small businesses were first getting online, and Veerina took it through an initial public offering; Nokia subsequently acquired the company, and he moved into a senior position there. That pattern — found, scale, exit to a strategic acquirer, then serve inside the acquirer — repeated with Azingo, a mobile software company he grew from a startup until Motorola acquired it.
