Professional Journey

Sivakumar arrived at Yale as a competitive squash player - she had represented Singapore internationally on the national team, at the SEA Games and at the World Juniors, on a Sports Excellence Scholarship - and went on to captain the Yale squash team. She met Anushka Nijhawan in their first year, and the two ended up working together in Yale’s natural language processing lab on web agents: software that could operate a browser without being told, step by step, where to click.

Alongside the research she took engineering internships in industry, working as a growth engineer at Figma, where her work included the new-user onboarding flow, and as a backend engineer at Snap Inc. She was also a Kleiner Perkins Engineering Fellow and a scout for Pear VC.

Spur grew directly out of the lab work. The problem the founders picked was quality assurance: every consumer web company needs to know that its checkout, search and account flows still work after each deploy, and the conventional answers are either a manual QA team or a suite of brittle, code-based tests that breaks on cosmetic UI changes. Spur’s answer is a multimodal agent that reads the page as a user does and follows a test described in English. The company entered Y Combinator’s Summer 2024 batch and launched publicly the following spring.

In April 2025 the founders announced a $4.5 million seed round led by Liz Wessel at First Round Capital, with Pear VC, Neo, Conviction, Liquid2 Ventures and Predictive Venture Partners alongside, and angels from Figma, Dropbox, Rippling and OpenAI.
