Professional Journey
Taylor’s early career ran through financial services and research rather than engineering. HYCU’s biography of him lists Forrester Research, Putnam Investments and Omgeo among the companies he worked with, and credits him with more than twenty years in go-to-market strategy, product marketing and channel sales management for high-growth technology companies. He took an MBA at Instituto de Empresa in Madrid.
He then joined Comtrade Group, and went on to lead Comtrade Software, an infrastructure monitoring business that was sold to Citrix. It was in this period, according to a Nutanix profile of the company, that he met Goran Garevski, a Slovenian engineer, at a Las Vegas technology conference in 2015.
The two founded HYCU in 2018, with Taylor as chief executive and Garevski leading engineering as CTO. The premise, as Taylor put it in that profile, was that if Uber could reinvent something as established as the taxi industry, someone could do the same for data protection. HYCU set out to give organisations one approach to backing up and recovering data wherever it lived, and has since extended that coverage to more than 100 workloads across SaaS applications, cloud environments, on-premises infrastructure and AI systems.
The company is headquartered in Boston and has raised more than $140 million; a 2022 SEC filing by HYCU Holdings, Inc. lists Taylor as an executive officer and director. In 2026 he launched HYCU aiR, which the company describes as an AI resilience platform that turns enterprise backups into searchable intelligence, and in March 2026 he promoted Chris Nelson to Chief Revenue Officer and Andy Fernandez to GM, AI and Cyber, saying that AI “is changing how data is created, where it lives, and how fast it moves.”
