Professional Journey

Nangia began his career as an engineer working on personalization at Amazon, an experience that shaped the recommendation and targeting work he would later commercialise. He subsequently founded DataMonk, an artificial-intelligence and big-data startup, before co-founding TargetingMantra in 2013 with Rahul Singh.

TargetingMantra offered a unified platform for managing the customer lifecycle through personalisation, targeting and big-data analytics, aimed at improving product discovery, recommendations and conversion for online retailers. Operating from Palo Alto and Gurgaon, the company drew the attention of Snapdeal, which announced its acquisition in May 2016 in order to bring personalisation expertise in-house. Terms were not disclosed. Nangia joined Snapdeal following the deal and led engineering within its Customer Experience organisation, work that put him close to the people-management and performance questions he would later build a company around.

In 2020 he co-founded Mesh with Gaurav Chaubey, a former HR consulting leader at Grant Thornton, and Rahul Singh, his TargetingMantra co-founder. The company joined Y Combinator’s Summer 2020 batch. Mesh’s thesis is that conventional performance management fails because it is episodic and administrative; the product instead presents goals and feedback in a social-media-style feed where colleagues can react to and comment on one another’s progress, with machine learning and natural-language processing surfacing sentiment and nudging managers toward timely conversations.
