Pande trained first as an engineer, earning a BTech in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, then a Master of Engineering in Petroleum Engineering and Management from Texas A&M University, before moving toward business with an MBA in Finance and Strategy from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He founded VMock in 2009 around a problem he had watched from both sides: career centers at universities could not give every student meaningful, timely feedback on a resume, and students rarely learned what was wrong with theirs until after they had been rejected. VMock’s answer was to encode what strong career coaches look for into a machine-learning system that scores a resume instantly and explains its reasoning, then extend the same approach to interview preparation and skills assessment. The platform positions itself around what Pande describes as the learning-to-earning journey, covering the transition from student to professional rather than a single application.
