Ryan Neu
Founder & CEO · Vendr
Founder and CEO of Vendr, the SaaS buying and software procurement platform he launched in July 2018 to fix the asymmetry in enterprise software negotiation: vendors negotiate constantly, buyers occasionally, and the price gap follows. A KPMG accountant turned enterprise sales leader, he spent five years at HubSpot and ran enterprise sales for the Americas at InVision before switching to the buyer's side of the table.

Executive Summary
Ryan Neu is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Vendr, a SaaS buying and software procurement platform he launched on 1 July 2018. The company exists because of a structural asymmetry Neu observed from the selling side: a software vendor’s sales team negotiates every day and knows precisely what every customer pays, while the buyer negotiates that particular contract once a year at most and knows only what they are told. The result is that comparable companies pay materially different prices for identical software. Vendr closes that gap using accumulated pricing data across thousands of transactions. Neu trained as an accountant at KPMG before spending five years at HubSpot and running enterprise sales for the Americas at InVision.

Professional Journey
Neu took a BS in Accounting at the College of Charleston and an MS in Accounting at Boston College, and began his career as a Senior Associate at KPMG. He moved out of accounting into software sales, spending five years in a succession of sales leadership positions at HubSpot during its high-growth period, then serving as Head of Enterprise Sales for the Americas at InVision from 2016 to 2018.
Those years gave him a detailed view of how enterprise software is actually priced, which is to say: negotiated, inconsistently, with the outcome depending heavily on how much each side knows. A vendor’s team runs hundreds of these negotiations annually, holds full visibility into its own pricing history, and understands exactly where discount authority sits. The buyer, typically a finance or IT leader with many other responsibilities, is negotiating one contract with one vendor and has no benchmark for what a fair price looks like. The predictable consequence is that two similar companies buying the same product at the same time pay very different amounts.
Neu founded Vendr in July 2018 to take the buyer’s side of that transaction, applying accumulated pricing data across thousands of software purchases so that a customer negotiates with the same information advantage the vendor has. The proposition landed at a moment when it was becoming acute: the average company’s software estate had expanded into hundreds of subscriptions, much of it purchased without central oversight, and finance leaders were under pressure to bring that spending under control.
The company grew to roughly 400 employees, managing more than $2 billion in software spend across over 2,000 suppliers, and raised substantial venture capital. Neu speaks on SaaS buying trends at events including Web Summit and Startup Grind, and invests as an angel, including in Laudable.
