Executive Summary

Russ Bukowski is President of Mastercam, the Tolland, Connecticut company that describes itself as the world’s leading provider of CAD/CAM software, used to program CNC machine tools. It has been part of Sweden’s Sandvik Manufacturing Solutions since 2021. He did not come up through engineering: raised in Palmer, Massachusetts, he graduated from Springfield Technical Community College and started out in web development and e-commerce. In his first year and a half as President, Mastercam bought several of its own channel partners, turning resellers into company-owned operations in the United States, Canada, Italy and India.

  • Responsible, per the company, for developing and executing Mastercam’s overall strategy and for the customer experience.
  • Announced the completed acquisition of channel partner Mastercam India in July 2026, and a third-party developer partnership with ProShop ERP in August 2026.

Professional Journey

Bukowski was born at Baystate Medical Center in the greater Springfield, Massachusetts area and grew up in Palmer, where he studied computer programming at Pathfinder Regional Vocational Technical High School and graduated first in his class. It was the peak of the dot-com boom and he wanted to get into work quickly, so he chose Springfield Technical Community College. He graduated from its Digital Media programme with high honours in 2003, while working three jobs, including a night job at a communications company next to the campus. He has credited the college’s teleproduction courses with teaching him to present to large audiences.

He started out in web development and e-commerce ventures and moved, as he put it, “from tech to communications to working on the business side”. At Mastercam he became Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer. Mastercam had been operating for more than four decades and was bought by Sandvik Manufacturing Solutions in 2021. In December 2024 he became interim President. On 17 April 2025 Sandvik made the appointment permanent, and Mattias Nilsson, President of Sandvik Manufacturing Solutions, cited the leadership he had shown as acting President.

As President, his company biography says, he is responsible for developing and executing Mastercam’s overall strategy and for its customer experience. According to the titles of its news releases since then, Mastercam has bought a series of its own channel partners and CAM businesses: key assets of QTE Manufacturing Solutions, a CAM business in the United States, In-House Solutions in Canada, Cadline in Italy and, in July 2026, Mastercam India. Announcing the Indian deal, he said bringing the team into the global organisation would strengthen local support. In August 2026 the company signed a third-party developer agreement with ProShop ERP to link CAM programming with shop-floor management. He has spoken publicly about a skills gap in U.S. manufacturing and about using AI features to help people without deep machining knowledge succeed in the field. He still lives in Palmer, in the house his grandparents once owned.
