Executive Summary

Ron Vianu is co-founder and chief executive of Covera Health, the New York company built on a simple and uncomfortable observation: the same imaging study, ordered for the same reason, can produce a meaningfully different diagnosis depending on where it is performed and who reads it. Covera uses AI to measure that variation across more than 1,100 imaging sites and steers employers’ and health plans’ members toward the facilities that read most accurately; Walmart and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan have built programs on it. In April 2026 he combined Covera with Medmo, which manages the logistics of getting patients to the right imaging center, creating a platform that covers nearly 6 million Americans. It is at least his third healthcare company: he started the first while still a student at NYU, and built the referral management business Spreemo from 2010 until its sale in 2017.

Career Highlights

  • Co-founder and CEO of Covera Health, established in 2017 to measure and improve diagnostic quality in radiology.
  • Founded Spreemo in 2010 with an orthopedic surgeon; grew it from six employees to more than 200 in New York and Dallas and won Deloitte’s Fast 500 award two years in a row.
  • Sold Spreemo to a strategic acquirer in 2017.
  • Led the April 2026 combination of Covera with Medmo, with lead investor Insight Partners committing additional capital; he remains CEO of Covera and Medmo’s Lucas Takahashi became President of the combined organization.
  • Built a platform that, according to Covera, has produced up to 12 percent lower downstream healthcare costs across its commercially insured population.

Professional Journey

Vianu’s first venture came more than thirty years ago, when he founded a health technology company while a senior at New York University. The company that defined his career before Covera came later. In 2010 he founded Spreemo with an orthopedic surgeon as co-founder, on the idea that medical care could be bought like goods online, with prices and quality rankings visible to the buyer. Spreemo became a referral management platform in occupational medicine, and it gave Vianu his first deep exposure to radiology. It grew from six employees to more than 200 across offices in New York and Dallas, won Deloitte’s Fast 500 award two years running, raised venture funding, and in 2017 was sold to a strategic acquirer.

He has since said he no longer thinks it fair to expect patients to shop for quality themselves, and Covera Health, founded the same year, moves the burden elsewhere. Rather than trying to replace radiologists or speed them up, the company set out to quantify the quality of their work: measuring diagnostic accuracy and the variation between imaging providers, then helping employers and health plans route members to centres of excellence. Its platform now measures diagnostic accuracy across more than 1,100 imaging sites nationwide and passes clinically significant findings back to referring physicians. Covera’s lead investor is Insight Partners, whose co-founder Jeff Horing sits on its board.

The company’s limit, as Vianu put it in April 2026, was that it could measure where patients should go but could not ensure they got there, or that the results reached the physician who needed to act. Medmo, led by Lucas Takahashi, did that part, having facilitated more than a million patient imaging journeys. The two companies announced their combination on 21 April 2026, with Insight committing new capital. Vianu continues as CEO of Covera Health and Takahashi became President of the combined organization while remaining Medmo’s chief executive. The combined platform manages diagnostic imaging for nearly 6 million Americans through Fortune 10 and Fortune 100 employers, three of the five largest national health plans and thousands of value-based primary care physicians.

Outside work, by his own company biography, he cycles along the East River and runs on the West Side Highway, though rarely at the same time.
