Executive Summary

Rohin Tagra is the founder and chief executive of Azimuth GRC, a Jacksonville company that sells compliance automation to banks, mortgage lenders and servicers. Its VALIDATOR software tests an institution’s entire portfolio against applicable state and federal laws every day, in place of the manual, sample-based testing that compliance departments have traditionally relied on. Tagra built it as the product he says he wanted to buy during a banking career spent on the regulatory side of large institutions: as a Managing Director at JPMorgan Chase working on post-crisis regulatory efforts and settlements, running consent-order remediation at Lender Processing Services, and integrating the risk and compliance functions of Bank of America and Merrill Lynch.

Career Highlights

  • Founder & CEO of Azimuth GRC, which the company says he founded in 2017; he has signed its SEC Form D filings as Chief Executive Officer since 2019.
  • Raised capital reported in Form D filings of November 2019, September 2021 and December 2023.
  • Brought in Truist Ventures as an investor in December 2021, followed by a multi-year expansion of the Truist relationship announced in November 2024.
  • Managing Director at JPMorgan Chase in the Mortgage and Oversight & Controls divisions, leading regulatory efforts and settlements after the financial crisis.
  • Built out the Risk and Compliance functions at Lender Processing Services (Black Knight) and managed the execution of its Consent Order to closure.
  • Led the execution team that integrated the risk and compliance functions of Bank of America and Merrill Lynch.
  • Appointed to the Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida Advisory Board in October 2022.

Professional Journey

Tagra studied economics at Emory University and built his career in banking operations, technology and, increasingly, regulatory compliance. The company biography does not date his roles or give their order. At Bank of America he held executive positions in Operations and Technology and led the execution team charged with combining the risk and compliance functions of Bank of America and Merrill Lynch.

He also built out the Risk and Compliance functions at Lender Processing Services (Black Knight) and managed the execution of its Consent Order through to closure. At JPMorgan Chase he was a Managing Director in the Mortgage and Oversight & Controls divisions, responsible for leading many of the regulatory efforts and settlements that followed the financial crisis. Across those roles he saw the same problem from inside large institutions: compliance was evidenced by testing small samples of files by hand, which was expensive, slow, and could not show that a whole portfolio complied.

Azimuth, which the company says he founded in 2017, was his answer. Its premise is that every applicable state and federal requirement can be codified and tested automatically against every loan or account, every day, so that problems surface early rather than in an examination. The company’s flagship product is VALIDATOR; its site also offers VAL, which turns regulations into cited guidance built on lawyer-written requirements. The Delaware corporation, Azimuth GRC, Inc., was incorporated in 2019 and has reported private raises on SEC Form D in 2019, 2021 and 2023, each signed by Tagra as Chief Executive Officer.

Truist has been the company’s most visible institutional partner. Truist Ventures invested in December 2021, and in November 2024 Azimuth announced a multi-year expansion under which the bank would deploy VALIDATOR for automated, full-population compliance monitoring across several consumer businesses. The company is headquartered in Jacksonville, with an office in Gurugram, India, and brands itself simply as Azimuth.

Tagra lives in Jacksonville. In October 2022 he was appointed to the Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida Advisory Board.
