Executive Summary
Rob Straathof is Chief Executive Officer of Grover, the Berlin company that rents consumer electronics by subscription — smartphones, laptops, wearables and more than 1,000 other devices — to consumers and businesses across Europe, refurbishing returned devices to extend their life. He joined in October 2025, after Grover completed a refinancing, and spent his first year rebuilding its leadership: a new CFO and CCO within weeks, and nine further senior management appointments by the following summer. He came from embedded finance rather than retail, having spent a decade as CEO of Liberis, which provides finance to small businesses through partner platforms.

Professional Journey
Straathof trained as an economist and holds an M.Sc. in Entrepreneurship and Economics. He began in finance, in investment banking and corporate development roles at JP Morgan and Wonga.
His defining role before Grover was a decade as chief executive of Liberis, which Grover describes as a global embedded digital finance platform for small businesses. Grover describes his tenure as turning a fintech startup into a well-established and profitable scale-up, with operations in 15 countries and more than 1.5 million small business owners served. He continues to advise Liberis’s executive board.
Grover appointed him CEO in October 2025. Founded in Berlin in 2015, Grover built a business around renting rather than selling technology, on flexible terms and with refurbishment of returned devices at its core. His appointment followed a refinancing of the company, and the chairman of Grover’s strategic advisory board, Jens Uwe Intat, cited his digital finance, leadership and global scaling experience. Straathof set out his priorities as a best-in-class customer experience and sustainable growth through direct channels and partnerships, placing Grover at what he called the intersection of convenience and sustainability.
He moved quickly on the team. In December 2025 Grover announced Thomas Menzel as Chief Financial Officer and Justin Cockerill as Chief Commercial Officer, completing its executive leadership. In April 2026 the company introduced a more flexible pricing model, and in July 2026 it announced nine appointments to a management layer below the executive board. Straathof said then that building and filling management roles had been his highest priority since starting as CEO, a process he described as essentially complete.
Education
M.Sc. in Entrepreneurship and Economics, according to Grover. The awarding institution was not named in any source reviewed.
