Professional Journey

Joyce trained in South Africa, earning a Bachelor of Science in engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand and a Master of Commerce in business management at the University of Johannesburg. According to Compass Minerals, he worked in consulting and management roles in finance and other fields early in his career.

In 2004 he joined Daimler AG and spent twelve years there, in senior roles in the United States, Europe and South Africa. These included Vice President, Customer Service at Mercedes-Benz USA and, in his last post, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mercedes-Benz Canada.

He moved to Delta Air Lines in 2016 as President of Delta Cargo. From 2017 he also ran the airline’s global airport customer service operation as Senior Vice President. Wahoo describes this combined business as one of Delta’s largest units. In 2020 he became Delta’s Chief Sustainability Officer.

Later in 2020 he joined Proterra, the commercial electric vehicle technology company, as President of its Powered and Energy business units. He became President of the company in 2021 and was its Chief Executive Officer from 2021 until March 2024. In October 2021 Compass Minerals, which was then pursuing lithium development, appointed him to its board for his experience with electric vehicle batteries and sustainable operations.

Wahoo appointed him Chief Executive Officer in March 2024. Athletech News reported that this came shortly after founder Chip Hawkins had re-acquired the company. Joyce has said he spent most of his career as an “intrapreneur” inside very large companies. At Wahoo he has overseen the launch of the KICKR RUN treadmill and additions to the indoor bike range, part of a plan to reach beyond committed cyclists into general fitness. He continues on the Compass Minerals board, and shareholders re-elected him in March 2026. That board created a Capital Allocation and Technical Committee in December 2025, and he chairs it.
