Executive Summary
Rick Skaggs co-founded TSP (Technology Service Professionals), an IT services and talent solutions company based in Richardson, Texas, with his former Honeywell colleague Frank Gonzalez in December 2002. The company says a downsizing at Honeywell that year gave the two the push to start it, and that Skaggs served as its CEO for its first 13 years. Since then he has moved away from day-to-day command. TSP’s news releases record him as president from January 2016 and chairman of the board from January 2018, while Gonzalez has led the company as CEO. TSP now describes Skaggs as a founder responsible for strategic partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, and calls him the company’s “chief evangelist”.

Professional Journey
Skaggs served in the military for three years, a period that took him to New Jersey, Washington D.C. and Korea. He then joined Honeywell as a service engineer and moved into sales, becoming a salesman, then a sales manager and then a regional director. At Honeywell he worked alongside Frank Gonzalez. TSP’s own account of its founding says the two had talked about starting a company together, and a 2002 downsizing gave them the reason to do it. They founded TSP that December, building it on the idea that the company’s product would be its people and not a device or software.
On TSP’s account, Skaggs was chief executive for the company’s first 13 years. In that time TSP grew from the two founders to more than 600 employees, the figure Gonzalez gave in 2016. It also expanded from IT maintenance into consulting, professional and project services, and later into industrial automation, IT recruitment and staffing, and renewals management. In January 2016 Skaggs stepped back from the chief executive role. The company has described his next position both as president and as an interim role leading a sales organization focused on new and emerging business. A June 2016 release named him “co-founder and president of emerging business, mergers and acquisitions”, the same year he and Gonzalez were named EY Entrepreneur Of The Year finalists in the Southwest area. They were finalists again in 2017.
TSP’s largest reorganization, announced in December 2017 as the company turned 15, made Skaggs Chairman of the Board from 1 January 2018. That role covered strategic partnerships, mergers and acquisitions and executive relationships with new and strategic customers. This deal-making work appeared in the November 2019 acquisition of Pyramid Technology Services, a seller and maintainer of new and refurbished servers, storage and networking equipment. Skaggs was quoted in that announcement as TSP’s co-founder and president. TSP’s current leadership page lists him as a founder, next to Gonzalez as Founder and CEO.
Outside the company, his TSP biography says he volunteers for Leighton’s Gift, the American Cancer Society, NICU Helping Hands and Folds of Honor. It also says he sits on the strategic planning committee of Crossway Church of Christ and won the Texas State Golden Gloves Boxing Championship in 1972.
