Professional Journey

McBee graduated from the United States Air Force Academy and later studied at Chapman University’s George L. Argyros School of Business and Economics. He joined Tektronix Communications in 1998 and spent close to a decade there in a succession of senior leadership positions. Danaher acquired the business in 2007, and McBee moved with it, becoming President of Danaher’s Communications and Enterprise Group — an education in the Danaher operating system, the continuous-improvement management discipline the conglomerate is known for and which shapes how its executives run businesses afterwards.

He went on to serve as President and Chief Executive Officer of Mitel, the Canadian communications company, where he led its transformation into a global provider of unified communications and collaboration through a sustained programme of acquisition and consolidation in a fragmenting market. He subsequently served as President and CEO of Riverbed Technology, the enterprise network performance and visibility company.

In July 2021 he became President and Chief Executive Officer of CLEAResult and joined its board. The move from communications technology into energy efficiency is less of a departure than it appears. CLEAResult’s business is the delivery of utility-funded efficiency programmes at scale: recruiting participants, managing contractor networks, installing measures, and documenting the savings to a regulator’s satisfaction across many jurisdictions with different rules. That is fundamentally an operations and execution problem of exactly the kind Danaher’s management discipline is built for, applied to a sector where demand has grown steadily as decarbonization commitments have made demand-side reduction a priority for utilities and regulators alike.

Alongside the role he serves on the board of Sportsman’s Warehouse Holdings, chairing its compensation committee.
