Executive Summary
Rebeca Minguela is the founder and chief executive of Clarity AI, a sustainability technology company built to solve a problem that sounds administrative and is not: investors who want to account for environmental and social impact in an allocation decision have historically lacked the data, the methodology and the tools to do it at scale. Clarity AI attacks that with machine learning and cloud computing rather than analyst headcount, covering tens of thousands of companies, hundreds of thousands of funds and hundreds of governments, and selling into asset managers, asset owners, banks, wealth managers and consumer commerce platforms. BlackRock is both an investor and a client. Minguela is an engineer by training with a Harvard Business School M.B.A., and she came to this after a first career that included the German Aerospace Agency, IBM, Siemens, Boston Consulting Group and Bain Capital, a startup she founded and sold to Groupon, and a senior digital role at one of Europe’s largest banks.

Professional Journey
Minguela trained as an engineer, taking a master’s in information technology and engineering across the University of Stuttgart and the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, and began her career in hard technical environments — the German Aerospace Agency, Siemens and IBM. She then moved into strategy and investing at Boston Consulting Group and Bain Capital, and took an M.B.A. at Harvard Business School, graduating with Distinction.
Her first company was Blink Booking, founded in 2011, a mobile application for last-minute hotel reservations that became the European leader in its category. Groupon acquired it in September 2013. Rather than leave after the sale she stayed on, becoming a Senior Director in global product, technology and operations and a General Manager, running one of Groupon’s highest-priority projects across a base of 200 million subscribers and 650,000 local merchants — an unusually large operating canvas for a founder straight out of an acquisition.
Banco Santander then recruited her to lead global digital transformation, appointing her a senior executive of the bank at 33. It put her inside one of the largest financial institutions in the world at exactly the point where the industry was starting to be asked, seriously, to account for the non-financial consequences of where it put money.
That is the problem Clarity AI exists to solve. She has described the founding motivation in personal terms: she grew up in a small village in Spain, saw the inequities that responsible-investment signatories are trying to address, and decided early that she wanted to work on meaningful change. The company was founded, by its own account, in 2017, with the aim of bringing societal impact to markets through technology rather than through opinion — its material stresses that the assessment should be unbiased, scientific and evidence-based, and that the data should reach users inside the workflows they already use.
Under her leadership Clarity AI has grown past 300 employees across the United States, Europe and the Middle East, taken investment from BlackRock and SoftBank, and been adopted by banks, asset managers and consumer platforms. She has become a recurring voice on the subject outside the company as well, speaking at the World Economic Forum, COP28, PRI in Person and the London Stock Exchange, and standing for election to the PRI board.
