Executive Summary

Ranjeet Banerjee is Chief Executive Officer of Cold Chain Technologies (CCT), the Franklin, Massachusetts company that designs and makes the insulated shippers, pallet systems and monitoring tools used to keep drugs, vaccines, cell and gene therapies and other biologics within temperature range in transit. He came to the job in September 2020 from a 25-year career at Becton Dickinson, where he finished as a Corporate Executive Vice President and President of the US and Canada regions with responsibility for about $6 billion in revenue. His appointment ended more than 20 years of leadership by the company’s founder, and it came just as COVID-19 vaccine distribution made cold chain packaging a matter of public concern.

Career Highlights

  • Chief Executive Officer of Cold Chain Technologies since September 2020, appointed at the same time to its Board of Directors.
  • Took over from founder Larry Gordon, who became Senior Advisor and a board member, while President Bob Bohne retired.
  • According to MIT Sloan Management Review, led CCT when the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines used its thermal packaging exclusively across the U.S.
  • 25 years at Becton Dickinson, ending as Corporate Executive Vice President and President of the US and Canada regions, responsible for about $6 billion in revenue.
  • Serves on the Advisory Board of the CEO Leadership Alliance.

Professional Journey

Banerjee trained as a chemical engineer, earning a Bachelor of Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology. He then spent 25 years at Becton Dickinson, the medical technology company, in roles of increasing responsibility. His company biography says he grew businesses in the Americas, Europe and Asia by pioneering new business models and product and service offerings. His final BD role combined a corporate executive vice presidency with the presidency of the North American region, which CCT’s announcement described as the US and Canada, with about $6 billion in revenue.

In September 2020 Cold Chain Technologies, then a portfolio company of Los Angeles private equity firm Aurora Capital Partners, named him Chief Executive Officer and a board member. CCT had been in business for more than 50 years. It had grown under founder Larry Gordon, who had led it for more than two decades and who moved into a senior advisory and board role. On taking the job, Banerjee pointed to the global expansion of its reusable parcel and pallet products, and its growing services and data-analytics work, as the main opportunities.

The timing gave the job unusual visibility. In a January 2022 episode of MIT Sloan Management Review’s Me, Myself, and AI podcast, which featured him talking about AI in the supply chain, the publication said the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines had used CCT’s thermal packaging exclusively in the U.S. His company biography now describes his job as overseeing global operations across all CCT divisions, driving profitability and setting innovation strategy. Since then the company’s newsroom has announced a cold chain orchestration platform, MedAssure, for launch at LogiPharma 2026; a 42,000-square-foot manufacturing, R&D and validation facility at Taloja, Navi Mumbai; a partnership with Gobi Technologies for cell and gene therapies; and a net zero emissions commitment.
