Professional Journey
Schmied joined Appspace in 2020 as Chief Customer Officer. At the time the company was widening from its roots in digital signage and content distribution into a broader workplace platform for large organizations. Appspace says more than 170 Fortune 500 companies use it. Customer adoption and retention were central to that shift, and his role sat directly on them. He later became President of the company.
On 2 October 2025 Appspace announced his promotion to Chief Executive Officer, alongside the appointment of Holly Grogan, previously Chief People Officer and Chief Experience Officer, as President. Tony DiBenedetto, who as CEO had led the company’s move into workplace experience, stayed on the board as Executive Chairman. The change came weeks after Appspace signed a definitive agreement to acquire Igloo Software, which brought intranet expertise and customers in healthcare, retail, manufacturing and hospitality, and after a growth investment from private equity firm Accel-KKR.
Schmied set out his mandate on taking the role: unify communications, intranet, digital signage and space management in one platform, and report “progress, not promises.” His first senior hires as CEO followed in March 2026. Eric Daggett, formerly of IBM, MuleSoft, Salesforce and Conga, became Chief Sales Officer, succeeding the retiring Steve Terp. Dan Ward, previously CTO at MHC, became Chief Technology Officer to lead the AI architecture behind the company’s Intelligence Assistants. Schmied described the aim as expanding the workplace experience category “into the intelligence layer that powers the modern enterprise.”
His career before Appspace is not described in any company or press source that was read, and it is not recorded here.
