Professional Journey
Sabio Ltd was incorporated in England in October 1998 as a specialist in the contact centre market. Roberts has written that when he joined, Sabio was “a team of just 30 people focused on solving problems in the contact centre market”, still a small UK operation. He became a director of Sabio Ltd in January 2003 and has remained on its board since.
He went on to become group chief executive; when that first spell began is not documented in the sources reviewed. Sabio expanded into mainland Europe from 2017. With Horizon Capital as its backer it completed six acquisitions in the three years to December 2019. In December 2019 Sabio appointed Jonathan Gale, the former chief executive of NewVoiceMedia, as group CEO. Roberts became Vice-Chairman and continued to work on inorganic growth. The company said the acquisition pipeline would extend both its geographic reach and its product capability.
Roberts later returned to the chief executive role. By February 2024 he was writing as CEO about the company’s development. He described a business that had grown organically and through acquisitions and whose teams in Glasgow, Bristol, Madrid, Paris and Singapore now worked together. He also described Sabio’s Disrupt conferences in London and Madrid as its main forum for discussing AI, automation and customer experience. Sabio now describes itself as an AI-powered expert services partner specialising in CX transformation, with major operations in the UK, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa and India. In March 2026 Roberts, as Chief Executive Officer, backed a staff-led heart-health and defibrillator initiative across the group’s offices, including its London headquarters.
