Professional Journey

Royal Wine’s history begins with a different family. The company was started in the 1940s by the Pluczenik brothers; Eugene Herzog, whose family had made wine in what became Czechoslovakia for generations and had supplied the Austro-Hungarian court, joined as winemaker, truck driver and salesman after emigrating to the United States in 1948. By 1958 Eugene was the majority stockholder and bought the company, and he went on to run it with his four sons, who introduced the Kedem brand. The company is now headquartered in Bayonne, New Jersey, and remains owned and operated by the Herzog family.

Nathan Herzog appears in the public record as a senior figure in that family business. In 2012 The Jewish Chronicle quoted him as Royal Wine’s vice-president in an article about the rising international profile of Israeli wine, saying that “we have only begun to scratch the surface with Israeli wines”. By February 2020 he was President: at a New York event celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of Royal’s partnership with the Rothschild family to produce premium kosher wine, he welcomed Baroness Ariane de Rothschild on the company’s behalf. In July 2026 The Jerusalem Post’s wine columnist Adam Montefiore, writing on Royal’s expansion of the kosher wine market, credited the company’s progress to “Mordy Herzog, the current CEO, and Nathan Herzog, the president”.
