Executive Summary

Mohit Bhakuni is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Contify, an AI-native market and competitive intelligence platform headquartered in Gurugram with offices in New York and London. He founded the company in 2009 and has run it for more than fifteen years without raising venture capital, an unusual choice in a category dominated by funded competitors and one that has shaped the company’s deliberate, staged product evolution. Contify collects, curates and distributes intelligence on competitors, customers and industry segments across an enterprise, and in 2026 was placed in the Visionaries quadrant of Gartner’s first Magic Quadrant for Competitive and Market Intelligence Platforms. Bhakuni came to the business by an indirect route: a mechanical engineering degree from IIT Delhi, consulting at Deloitte, an INSEAD MBA, and several years running the internet businesses of two of India’s largest newspaper groups, work that gave him a close view of how organisations consume and fail to act on information.

Career Highlights

  • Founded Contify in 2009 and has served as its Chief Executive Officer continuously since.
  • Led Contify to a Visionary placement in Gartner’s inaugural Magic Quadrant for Competitive and Market Intelligence Platforms in 2026.
  • Built the company on a bootstrapped basis, reaching an estimated 8 million US dollars in annual recurring revenue without outside funding.
  • Guided Contify through three product generations: a business-information aggregator at founding, an industry intelligence platform launched in 2012, and a fully customisable enterprise-grade platform released in 2014.
  • Expanded the company from Gurugram into New York and London, serving Fortune 500 and global B2B enterprises.
  • Previously ran the online businesses of The Indian Express Group and Hindustan Times, two of India’s largest media houses.
  • Speaks and writes frequently on competitive intelligence, artificial intelligence and entrepreneurship.

Professional Journey

Bhakuni trained as a mechanical engineer, taking a B.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in 2000, and began his career at Deloitte Consulting. There he worked on the design and development of transaction systems and on integrating enterprise resource planning software with legacy systems, an apprenticeship in how large organisations actually run their information infrastructure.

He then moved into Indian digital media at the moment it was being built. As head of online operations at The Indian Express Online Media Ltd. and later as deputy general manager at Hindustantimes.com, he was responsible for the internet businesses of two of the country’s largest newspaper groups, concentrating on profitability, new market development and strategy. He took an MBA at INSEAD in France in 2005. The combination proved formative: he was working daily with enormous volumes of published information while watching enterprises struggle to turn any of it into decisions.

Contify followed in 2009, founded in Gurugram alongside Kapil Bharati and Pankaj Joshi. It began as a business-information aggregator, launched as an industry intelligence platform in 2012, and in 2014 released a fully customisable enterprise-grade market and competitive intelligence platform. Bhakuni chose to grow the business without venture capital, and Contify remains bootstrapped, with outside estimates putting annual recurring revenue at roughly 8 million US dollars. The company now runs from Gurugram with offices in New York and London.

The most recent chapter has been the rebuilding of the platform around artificial intelligence. Contify positions itself as AI-native, collecting, synthesising and activating decision-ready intelligence rather than simply delivering news feeds. That positioning was externally validated in 2026 when Gartner published its first Magic Quadrant for the category and placed Contify among the Visionaries, a quadrant that denotes a clear and differentiated view of where the market is heading.
