Khalaf earned a BS in engineering and an MBA in finance from Syracuse University, according to MetLife. He began his career as an investment officer at the headquarters of Alico, the international life insurer, and spent more than two decades there leading businesses in countries including Poland, Romania, the Baltics, the Caribbean, France, Italy, the Philippines and Egypt.
