Executive Summary
Matt Britton is the founder and chief executive of Suzy, a New York consumer insights platform built on a simple contention about how businesses make decisions: that consumer research is too slow and too expensive to sit at the centre of the choices companies actually make day to day, and that if you fix the speed you change what research is for. Suzy lets brands run surveys and moderated interviews against a managed audience and get analysed answers in hours. It is the third act of a career spent adjacent to the same question — Britton founded the youth marketing agency Mr. Youth in 2002 and grew it from a one-man operation past 500 employees before selling it to Publicis Groupe, then built and ran CrowdTap, an influencer platform he pivoted into consumer research and from which Suzy emerged. He is also the author of two books, YouthNation and Generation AI, and hosts The Speed of Culture on the Adweek Podcast Network.
Career Highlights
- Founded Mr. Youth in 2002 running branded campus events aimed at millennial consumers, and grew it into an early social media marketing pioneer with more than 500 employees before its rebrand to MRY and sale to Publicis Groupe.
- Created CrowdTap to manage early influencers, became its chief executive in 2016, and repositioned it toward rapid consumer research.
- Launched Suzy out of CrowdTap and leads it as founder and chief executive.
- Wrote YouthNation and Generation AI, both reported by the company as debuting at number one on Amazon’s business list.
- Hosts The Speed of Culture on the Adweek Podcast Network.
- Has advised more than half of the Fortune 500 over two decades, including work involving Google, Microsoft, Netflix, PepsiCo and Coca-Cola.
- Built a Suzy investor base spanning BDMI, Foundry, HIG Capital, Rho, Thirty5, Triangle Peak Partners and TVP.
- Suzy has been named to the Inc. 5000, recognised as a G2 High Performer in Summer 2025 and listed among Best Places to Work for 2026.
Professional Journey
Britton started Mr. Youth in 2002, alone, running branded events on college campuses aimed at what was then an emerging and poorly understood consumer group — millennials. The timing mattered more than the format. As social platforms arrived over the following decade, the agency moved with them and became an early specialist in social media marketing rather than events, and Britton built it past 500 employees. It was rebranded MRY and acquired by Publicis Groupe. That two-decade proximity to large brands is the origin of the claim that he has advised more than half of the Fortune 500.
The agency years also exposed the structural problem he has been working on since. Brands were making consequential product, marketing and positioning decisions on consumer understanding that was either months old or non-existent, because traditional market research was priced and paced as a project rather than as a utility. Britton built CrowdTap initially as a way to organise and activate early influencers, and became its chief executive in 2016. He then turned it toward research, on the reasoning that the same managed, engaged audience that could be mobilised for marketing could answer questions instead — and much faster.
Suzy is the result of that pivot, spun out of CrowdTap with the ambition, in Britton’s framing, that every decision a business makes can have consumer insights at its centre. The platform combines quantitative survey work with qualitative interviews and analysis tooling, sold to brand and insights teams, and is backed by BDMI, Foundry, HIG Capital, Rho, Thirty5, Triangle Peak Partners and TVP. It is headquartered in New York City and has picked up an Inc. 5000 placement, a G2 High Performer recognition in Summer 2025 and a Best Places to Work listing for 2026. Britton has assembled a senior team around him including chief operating officer Bryan Silverman and chief financial officer Brian Erickson, previously CFO at Transfix and at DigitalOcean through its IPO.
Alongside the company, Britton has built a substantial public profile as an author and speaker. YouthNation and Generation AI both address generational change and its commercial consequences, the latter on what it means to grow up with artificial intelligence and how that reshapes homes, classrooms, workplaces and markets. He hosts The Speed of Culture on the Adweek Podcast Network, keynotes on AI, Gen Z and Gen Alpha, and appears regularly in CNN, Bloomberg, Forbes and the Wall Street Journal. His current public positioning leans firmly toward AI and its effect on how consumers discover, decide and buy.
Education
No education could be established. Neither Suzy’s about page, nor Suzy’s leadership page, nor Britton’s own personal site names an institution, degree or field — notably, the same leadership page does give education for several other Suzy executives.
