Executive Summary
King Alandy Dy is the CEO and co-founder of Expedock, which builds AI document automation for freight forwarding and logistics, serving clients in more than 40 countries. The problem it addresses is one he encountered long before he had the tools to solve it: international freight runs on documents — bills of lading, commercial invoices, arrival notices, customs declarations — arriving as scans, faxes and PDFs in thousands of inconsistent layouts, and the industry processes them substantially by hand. Dy began working in that world at sixteen, in his family’s import-export business across Southeast Asia, China and the Philippines, then studied computer science and product design at Stanford and worked in machine learning at Shopee, Stanford GSB and Intuit before returning to it.

Professional Journey
Dy comes from a family in cross-border logistics and began working in the business at sixteen, learning international import-export operations spanning Southeast Asia, China and the Philippines from the ground up. That is an unusual grounding for a technology founder, and it accounts for the specificity of the problem Expedock attacks — the document burden in freight forwarding is invisible from outside the industry and inescapable within it.
He went on to Stanford University, studying computer science and product design, and worked as a natural language processing researcher at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business. His industry roles were in applied machine learning: an ML engineer at Shopee, the Southeast Asian e-commerce platform, and Product Machine Learning Lead at Intuit.
Expedock brings the two halves together. Freight forwarding is a document-intensive business in which each shipment generates a sheaf of paperwork from carriers, customs authorities, shippers and terminals, none of it standardized. Forwarders employ large operations teams to read those documents and key their contents into transport management systems, which is slow, expensive, and a persistent source of costly errors. Conventional optical character recognition fails because it depends on templates, and there is no template when every counterparty formats differently.
Expedock applies machine learning to extract meaning from freight documents without templates or per-document instructions, with the company reporting 99.95% accuracy, and positions itself as tech-enabled workforce augmentation rather than pure software — recognizing that the industry needs the outcome, not a tool to achieve it. The company serves clients in more than 40 countries, raised a $13.5 million Series A from Insight Partners in 2022, and has been backed by Ayala Corporation according to Philippine business press. Dy was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list in 2023.
