Professional Journey
Lancaster earned his medical degree and a doctorate in molecular genetics at the University of Wales. Truveta says he trained in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Cambridge and Duke University, and he completed his residency and a gynecologic oncology fellowship at Duke. He stayed at Duke University Medical Center as medical director of its Gynecologic Dysplasia Clinic and is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in gynecologic oncology.
He then spent about 12 years at Moffitt Cancer Center as a gynecologic oncologist and translational researcher, with a research focus on the molecular genetics of women’s cancers and personalized medicine. He became chair of the Department of Women’s Oncology and director of the Center for Women’s Oncology, deputy physician-in-chief and president of the Moffitt Medical Group.
In February 2015 he left academic medicine for Myriad Genetics, the genetic testing company, joining as vice president of Medical Affairs for Oncology. He said at the time that the move offered “a compelling opportunity to make a difference and accelerate progress in the field of cancer research and patient care”. He became chief medical officer, providing medical and scientific leadership for its precision medicine tests. From Myriad he moved to Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, where he was Senior Vice President and Head of Global Medical Affairs.
In January 2026 Truveta appointed him President and Chief Scientific Officer. Truveta is led by co-founder and chief executive Terry Myerson, a former Microsoft executive vice president, and is built with and owned by U.S. health systems. It aggregates medical record data to reveal connections between treatments and health outcomes, and GeekWire reports that it reached a valuation of more than $1 billion in 2025 and has raised $320 million. Lancaster’s remit is its scientific strategy and its partnerships with health systems, life sciences companies and regulators. In the announcement he said the team had “earned the trust of health systems, life sciences partners, and regulators by delivering real-world evidence with rigor and integrity.” In a post on Truveta’s blog he wrote that he became an oncologist “to help patients one at a time”, and that Truveta was a way to work at a larger scale.
