Executive Summary

Jacomo Corbo is co-founder and chief executive of PhysicsX, a London company that builds AI models to predict physical behaviour for engineering and manufacturing. In June 2026 it announced a $300 million Series C at a valuation of about $2.4 billion. He co-founded the AI firm QuantumBlack and was its chief scientist, then became a partner at McKinsey after McKinsey acquired QuantumBlack in 2016. Earlier he was chief race strategist for the Renault Formula 1 team. He holds a PhD in computer science from Harvard.

Career Highlights

  • Co-Founder & CEO of PhysicsX. He joined as co-CEO in February 2023 alongside co-founder Robin Tuluie, who is now chairman.
  • Led PhysicsX’s $135M Series B, led by Atomico, in June 2025, and its $300M Series C, led by Temasek, in June 2026.
  • Co-founder and Chief Scientist of QuantumBlack, established in 2009 and acquired by McKinsey & Company in 2016.
  • Partner at McKinsey, global leader of its MLOps service line and co-director of QB/Labs, QuantumBlack’s R&D and product engineering unit.
  • Chief Race Strategist for the Renault F1 (Alpine) team from 2006 to 2008, when the team won two world championships.
  • Senior Fellow at the Wharton School and holder of the Canada Research Chair of Information Management at the University of Ottawa.

Professional Journey

Corbo trained as an engineer and a computer scientist. He took a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at McGill University, then a master’s in applied statistics and a PhD in computer science at Harvard. His academic posts included a Canada Research Chair of Information Management at the University of Ottawa and a senior fellowship at the Wharton School.

From 2006 to 2008 he was chief race strategist for the Renault F1 team, now Alpine, which won two world championships in that period. In 2009 he co-founded QuantumBlack, an AI engineering services firm, and was its chief scientist. McKinsey & Company acquired QuantumBlack in 2016 and made it the firm’s AI division. Corbo became a partner, led transformation work at advanced engineering and industrial companies, led McKinsey’s global MLOps service line and co-directed QB/Labs, QuantumBlack’s R&D and product engineering unit.

In February 2023 he joined PhysicsX as co-CEO with Robin Tuluie, a former head of R&D at Renault and Mercedes F1 whom the company names as its co-founder. PhysicsX has called both men its founders since its first funding announcement. The company builds models that predict physical behaviour in seconds rather than the hours or days a conventional simulation takes, so engineers can test far more designs. It works with customers in aerospace and defence, semiconductors, automotive, energy and materials. In November 2023 it came out of stealth with a $32 million Series A led by General Catalyst. With Corbo as CEO and Tuluie as chairman, it raised a $135 million Series B led by Atomico in June 2025 and appointed Chris Wigley as COO that November.

In June 2026 PhysicsX announced a $300 million Series C led by Temasek, at a valuation of about $2.4 billion, with existing investors including NVIDIA, Siemens, Applied Materials, Atomico and General Catalyst. It said it had more than 300 staff and had doubled recognised revenue year on year. Corbo said the money would help push the company “toward ever larger and more capable Large Physics Models”.
